While the adults are worshipping in the auditorium, Gloria and other ladies teach the children. Here they are learning to pray.
On June 15 there were more than 20 visitors to the evening worship from the US. The large crowd overflowed all the way to the street.

In May of 2008, Jorge and Gloria gave up one of their bedrooms to enlarge the worship auditorium used by the church. The east wall of the garage was removed and the former bedroom became the front of the auditorium. It doubled the size of the auditorium. Still, with the rapid growth of the congregation, there are sometimes people sitting outside.

The congregation worked to dig the foundation trenches, then enjoyed fellowship and food in the shade.

Digging trenches for foundations for their new church building. Now they are saving money to buy materials and start construction.

That is a BIG rock the brother is lifting out of the trench!

The Ocotepeque church has bought and paid for 2 lots at the south edge of town to build on. They are saving up money for materials to build with, but in the meantime they have dug out for the footings/foundation. Here are a couple of phots of the work crew they had one Saturday.

This is the preacher and his family. Jorge has a lovely wife, Gloria. They have 3 daughters - Gloria, Karen, Cessia. Jorge speaks English quite well --- he is self-taught. Gloria is learning English rapidly, but the girls are learning it really fast.

The church met in the garage of the house that Jorge and Gloria Rodriguez live in. It is a small garage, just big enough for one car. When an overflow crowd is expected, they erect a shelter outside. You can see the blue tarp set up for this event in September '07.

purpose of the blog

This is intended to give some of the history of the Church of Christ, Iglesia de Cristo, in Ocotepeque, Honduras and show the people involved as well as the facilities and activities of the church there. Most entries will be made randomly and not chronologically.
